The Home of the Blizzard

I’m in Byron Bay at the home of Romono Crivici and Carla Thackrah, writing this after our soundcheck for The Home of Blizzard, their powerful film about Antarctica. I’ve been invited to perform with them as part of the Bangalow Film Festival, and it feels very special to be here.

As always, rehearsing with film and live audio brings its challenges. There are so many moving parts, and even small technical issues can become stressful. Today was no exception—but despite a few bumps, everything came together well in the end.

Afterwards, we shared a lovely lunch just outside the Bangalow hall. It was a simple but beautiful moment—good food, good company, and that sense of calm after the intensity of rehearsal.

I also had the chance to walk along the beach near their place. There was some rain, but it didn’t matter. If anything, it made the experience more powerful. There’s something about the energy of nature here—raw, shifting, alive—that feels deeply inspiring.

It’s such a joy to make music with Romono and Carla.

We perform tomorrow—Sunday, 14 June at 3pm.
